The day started off dark and foreboding. Big rain clouds threatened to open up at any minute, and it grew more and more overcast as the morning went on. Then, a little over an hour before the wedding began, the storm unleashed. Rain pelted against the glass in the chapel, the black thunderclouds blocked out the sun, and lightening danced across the horizon.

It wasn’t the prettiest weather for a wedding, but that didn’t dim Hannah’s smile a single bit. She arrived in a flurry of umbrellas and rain, and was whisked away before John could see her. Even though the day hadn’t gone as planned, she was still giddily excited to marry her best friend. She was beautiful, and a ray of sunshine on a dark and dreary day.

When John first saw his bride, he couldn’t have agreed more. There was the woman he was going to marry. His confidant. His companion. And his partner in life. Tears welled up in his eyes as he took in every little detail of Hannah. From her veil to her dress to the strappy heels she was wearing. But his favorite part? Her smile.

You know the one… Not the fake “picture smile”. Not the mischievous grin. Nor the the silly smirk she liked to give him when he joked around.
No.
It was the smile she made when she grinned at him. The one that goes from ear to ear and brings a laugh with it. The one that scrunches her nose up and makes his heart skip a beat. The smile that he fell in love with when he first met her.
Yeah. That smile.

And it was that smile that didn’t leave Hannah’s face all day. Through the ceremony as the storm slowly moved on and brought sunshine with it. During the reception as she danced with her husband and celebrated with her family. And as they drove away together, finally and oh so happily married.

What a beautiful smile.
And what a beautiful day!
